Our client in Clinton County was charged with malicious destruction of property $200-$1000 for allegedly damaging an enclosed utility trailer. The prosecutor threatened to increase the charge to a felony when, after charges were issued, they received information that the damage was claimed to be more than $1000. Attorney DeBruin and the client hired a private investigator to conduct an independent investigation to challenge the sufficiency of the evidence. The PI helped her track down information that she presented to the prosecutor, who agreed that the charges were improper. Case dismissed prior to the final pretrial!
